A Report Card for Australia’s Sharks & Rays
This Report Card covers and assesses 331 Species (341 stocks), of which 230 stocks have been assessed as sustainable at current levels of fishing. Many are managed through fishing regulations. Others are sustainable because the level of fisheries take is very small, and they have naturally resilient life histories (for example, Spot-Tail Shark, Carcharhinus sorrah, Northern Australia stock). Eleven stocks are recovering, 15 are depleting, 19 depleted and 18 are undefined due to very limited information on which to base assessments.
